Animal portraits

I visited home a few weeks ago, hence had the opportunity to take some portrait photos of pets. Here's a couple I considered to be the best of the lot.

Landscapes

So a while ago (actually pretty much the day after I posted my last post) I went out and bought a tripod with the intention of using it for landscapes. And I have used it for at least one landscape so far....here it is. This probably isn't the best photo I took, but was one of them.

I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but I use a Canon EOS 450D with the standard twin lenses.

Experimenting with DOF

Today I decided it would be a good day to learn more about changing the depth of field of a photograph using the aperture value. Being lazy, I haven't ever actually done this before. For landscape photos I'd use the auto landscape settings and for macro I'd use the auto macro settings. I also discovered the value of manual focus while experimenting with the depth of field. Auto-focus just seems to choose any random point to focus on, hence the value of manual focus is to have control over your photograph.

Without further ado, a couple of shots I took while experimenting:

f/22 - large depth of field, most of the photo in focus.

f/3.5 - shallow depth of field, background out of focus.
